Here's a simple recipe for making wonton soup:
Ingredients:
For the wontons:
- 250g ground pork or shrimp (or a combination)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1 package Yunion Extra Thin Wonton Skin (300g or 500g)
For the soup:
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Optional: bok choy, sliced mushrooms, or other vegetables of your choice
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork or shrimp, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, minced garlic, chopped green onions, and chopped cabbage. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.
2. Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling mixture in the centre of the wrapper.
3. Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal. You can also wet the two bottom corners of the triangle and bring them together, pressing firmly to seal, to create the classic wonton shape.
4. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling until all the wontons are made.
5. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. If you're adding any vegetables like bok choy or mushrooms, add them to the pot as well.
6. Once the broth is simmering, carefully add the wontons one by one. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the wontons are cooked through and float to the surface.
7. Once the wontons are cooked, taste the broth and adjust seasoning if necessary.
8. Serve the wonton soup hot, garnished with additional chopped green onions if desired.
Enjoy your homemade wonton soup!
